Junior Savers/Treasure Chest

The Junior Savers’ section of the Credit Union allows members under the age of 16 to open accounts.  Accounts may be operated for very young children by parents or guardians.

With help and support from the Government’s Local Network Fund, the Catholic Children’s Society, individual schools and Credit Union volunteers, a Junior Savers Club known as “Treasure Chest” was established in early 2004 and school banks now operate in several primary schools in St Albans. The “in-school” Treasure Chest banks were welcomed and encouraged by the head teachers. The banks are operated during term time by Credit Union volunteers, volunteers from the schools, and some senior pupils. Opening hours by agreement with each school  during term time

The Credit Union’s School Savers’ Scheme has been awarded $1000 from the St Albans City and District Council’s Community Grants Fund. We will use the money to pay for prizes for our school savers and to extend the School Savers’ Scheme to other schools in the community. .

School banks currently operate in St Albans: Mandeville Primary,  Maple,  SS Alban and Stephen RC Infants School , Margaret Wix Primary School, Windermere Primary and also St Helen's C of E Primary School in Wheathampstead.'

The children receive small prizes for achieving various milestones and then move on to receive certificates for regular saving.

In each of the last few years Junior Savers have received 2% on their average savings balance.
